Še pred petimi dnevi je vratar Danilo v zadnjih trenutkih tekme zaustavil izjemno nevaren strel in brazilskemu Chapecoenseju priboril uvrstitev v finale južnoameriškega pokala. S soigralci je burno proslavljal uspeh, le nekaj dni kasneje pa je bil eden izmed četverice, ki je sprva preživela letalsko nesrečo. Po poročanju medijev je kasneje tudi sam podlegel poškodbam, novico pa so potrdili tudi v klubu.
Na finalno tekmo ni odpotovalo osem nogometašev, nekaj se jih je po tragediji napotilo v garderobo stadiona, pred njim pa so se začeli spontano zbirati tudi pretreseni navijači kluba iz mesta Chapecó.
